Crusin' The Pacific Coast Highway
by Ray Estonina
Welcome to the Pacific Coast Highway, also known as California State Route 1, or simply PCH. This portion of PCH traverses near the San Andreas Fault. Here the tectonic plate boundaries of the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate slide horizontally past each other causing earthquakes on the San Andreas Fault. Each year hundreds of thousands of bikers ride the PCH. The stunning coastline full of iconic landmarks is one of the most thoroughly traveled roads in the world. This legendary road is meant to be ridden leisurely, taking in the coastal views, the endless sky and the expansive beaches. Most of this coastal road is still wild and natural. You can ride for miles and miles, with the only sign of civilization being the wide open road you're on. It is best to ride North to South, because you'll be on the right side of the road for uninterrupted views of the coastline.
